Bakehouse Studio is Accrington's newest project studio and home to indie label "Wobbly Music"
The Live Room
The studio features a separate, acoustically treated, soundproofed live room (14'x11') that is large enough for rock bands and acoustic ensembles. There is also a radio Midi Link to the Live Room and video recording facilities. Industry-standard Beyer Headphones are supplied for monitoring.
The Control Room
The facility uses a MacG5/LogicPro digital recording system at 24bit/96Khz with a Tascam control surface for easy automation. Up to 8 tracks can be recorded simultaneously, and unlimited overdubs can be made without any degradation of the sound quality. Guide vocals, keyboards, or acoustic rhythm tracks can be recorded from the Control Room to enable separation from drums on the initial backing track.
In addition, the control room houses a Casio velocity-sensitive keyboard for midi input, a wide selection of software instruments, samples and effects, a Roland SRV2000 Reverb, a Drawmer Dual Gate, Twin Cassette Decks, and a Genelec/Samson/Behringer monitoring system.
Mics
A range of quality microphones from Shure, SE Electronics, AKG & Beyer allow us to capture your sound without unnecessary colouration and with as much warmth and detail as possible. DI boxes with speaker emulation and a Boss Multi-effects Guitar Pedal complete the range of input devices.
Instruments
A range of basic instruments including a Casio velocity-sensitive Keyboard, electronic and acoustic percussion from Roland & Premier, a collection of latin percussion, Westfield bass guitar, Aria 6-string & 12-string Acoustics, electric guitars from Fender and Epiphone, Mandolin, Ovation Ukelele, and many other miscellaneous instruments, are available for those who like to experiment, or are having problems with their own instruments on the day.
Production & arrangement advice.
The studio is owned and run by Lynn Monk who has over 35 years experience in sound engineering and production. Having successfully mixed the live sound at concerts for many internationally famous artists, Lynn turned to record production in the mid 80's and worked in several recording studios before forming Wobbly Music in 2000. After a few years of producing mainly commercial projects, Lynn started the Wobbly Music record label in 2004 and worked remotely online with her own signed artists based in all corners of the Globe. Being a percussionist herself, Lynn saw the need early on for a soundproofed live room. After 3 years of construction, Lynn has now opened her newly refurbished recording studio to visiting local artists and independent projects.
The studio boasts a comfortable & friendly atmosphere with light refreshments of Tea, Coffee & Biscuits included. But as an experienced record producer, Lynn offers so much more than the average project studio. Included in the price are her skills as sound engineer and producer. This enables you to concentrate on your performance without wasting valuable studio time listening back to every take. Coupled with Lynn's talent for arrangements and commercial hooks, you can be sure that any ideas that might be needed in order to bring your music to a wider audience, will be forthcoming during the session.
If you are a solo artist or songwriter, Lynn can supply the musicians you need in order to make your songs come alive. Anything from drum tracks to lead guitar solos, synths or backing vocals. Lynn can call upon her database of session musicians who work from their own studios remotely online to provide the tracks that your songs need for the lowest possible cost.
Mastering
Unlike other project studios, every recording is Mastered to Bluebook and Redbook standards to ensure that even a demo will be "Radio Ready" and able to compete alongside music from the major labels on your local or national stations. We favour a form of mastering that doesn't over-compress the music. This keeps a fair amount of the natural dynamics and emotion in the music whilst still being loud enough to play alongside current releases without having to adjust your volume control.
Completed projects average around 1Gb per song and are supplied as digital files that can be downloaded from our servers upon completion and settlement of any outstanding fees. Each song is mixed and mastered to the following formats:-

A 128Kbps stereo MP3. (Download Store quality)
A 40Kbps mono MP3. (Streaming Quality)

Personalised Songs ("My Record Release") - A unique song written and recorded for and about someone close to you, with the option to have it made into a record and released on the Wobbly Music Label. - £299
"X-Factor (Audio X-perience)" - £99. If you know someone with a desire to sing, they can spend 4 hours in our studio singing up to 3 of their favourite songs. We have over 16,000 backing tracks available from our Backing Track Store. They can download their selected songs in advance and practice at home before bringing them to the studio. We will then record their performances and mix them in with the backing tracks with all the necessary effects processing for a professional result. Extra CD copies may be purchased for £2 each.
"X-Factor (Video X-perience)" - £149. As above, but you will record just one song and have an extra 2 hours that will be used for filming the performance and then editing into a music video. The video will be burnt to DVD with a printed label and insert. The video will also be published on our website and on YouTube (Unless you ask us not to!). Extra DVD copies may be purchased for £3 each.

"I had an offer to provide the music for a video for immediate broadcast on an Asian TV channel in the UK. I needed to find a local studio and I needed it fast.
Within half an hour of phoning Lynn at Bakehouse Studio, I was there laying down my tracks. As I was in a hurry to seal the deal with the TV station, we rushed through the process of recording, editing, mixing, mastering, and burning and printing the Bluebook CDs in just Two and a half hours!
I came away with what I thought was a perfect recording, but upon closer inspection, I noticed a digital glitch on one of the tracks. In hindsight I realise I shouldn't have rushed the process so much. I phoned Lynn, explaining that I needed it fixed by the end of the day.
Despite being in the middle of another project, Lynn very kindly fixed the glitch and then spent another 4 hours re-mastering all 3 tracks to an even better standard than before. She even made 4 file versions of each track and put them on a DVD for me, alongside the unmastered mixes! She didn't even charge me full price for all this extra work even though I made the mistake of not booking enough time in the first place.

"We've managed to upload the four tracks we got down at Bakehouse Studios in Accrington last week to our embryonic myspace page. (completed like two minutes ago!) We're happy with the results, as the maximum amount of takes we had at anything was two. Lynn is a very accomplished producer and the atmosphere in the studio was perfect. Business like so we could get some good work done, but relaxed enough to have a giggle while we were doing it. "We had been looking for somewhere to record some of our songs and when we saw an offer from Lynn at Wobbly Music we decided to give it a go. From the outside the Bakehouse Studio doesn’t look much, in fact you’d never know it was there, but inside the recording facilities are excellent. There is also a very relaxed friendly atmosphere but Lynn remains very professional throughout.
As none of the band have recording skills to speak of we were guided by Lynn who gave very good advice while listening to what sound we were after. All in all a great experience and we would certainly recommend other bands to take advantage of this local facility, we know we hope to again.*
